Evening of Christmas 24 December 2015

Gospel of the Night mass: Luke 2, 2-8

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman World. And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Maybe it is the dark season of the year that explains our need for security, warmth and gentles and therefore Christmas is touching us so much. In the Christmas services we hear from the Light in the dark that shines above us and lighten our lives and make the darkness bearable. It is the glow of the Lord, who brings us Peace, who is lighting our heart.

This light of the Lord God, this little child in a manger, is not like every light, it will inflame not only in the Christmas season. It needs courage but when this light inflames in us, it gives us everything we are yearning for: Love, security, Warmth salvation, grace. So come, let us salute Him.

To do: Peace Light

One can bring now, with a group of Scouts, the Light of Bethlehem into the church.
