ICCS Centenary Celebration

Dear scouts and leaders,

This year we are celebrating a very important step in the history of Catholic Scouting.

It was in 1920 that the 1st World Scout Jamboree took place in London.

At that time, (the now Venerable) Jacques Sevin SJ, Jean Corbisier and Mario Gabrielli di Carpegna decided to promote and organize what would become the International Catholic Conference of Scouting. Soon they would receive the blessing and support of Pope Benedictus XV.

From that time on, catholic scout associations continued to be founded and to grow, allowing leaders to work in better educative tools that focus in integral development of young people, with a strong reference to God, as revealed in Jesus Christ.

As a way to celebrate this centenary, we are inviting all scouts and leaders in ICCS member associations to share about their way of living catholic scouting and to get in touch with each other.

For cubs, we launched “Play with Jesus”. The challenge is to create a hand craft, a picture, a painting or some visual art in order to express their feeling of being a catholic cub. It might relate to some activity they had in the past, or be prepared on the moment, camping or not.

For boyscouts, we are promoting “Adventure in Catholic Scouting”. The idea is to send a small video, up to 4 minutes, were the scouts show to all other scouts in the Euro-Med Region what they do to live spirituality and catholic conviction.

For rovers and young leaders a competition will be held – “Witness your Faith”. They will have to search for resources and study about catholic scouting and ICCS. A Quiz Competition will be organized in two stages: The FIRST one will be open for all Participants during one week from 1 November to 7 November. The SECOND and FINAL one will be for the top 10 ranked from first Stage and will consist of a quiz which will be held online for one-hour duration on 15 November at 20:00 CET, 19.00 GMT. The winner will receive a Full Package to participate at the World Youth Day in Lisbon 2023.

At last, a beautiful Mass Ceremony will close our Centenary Celebration. All leaders are invited to follow and to pray by the scout youth on Saturday 21 November @ 20:00 CET (19:00 GMT), vespers of the Solemnity of Christ the King.
